Jamshedpur: A biting sub-10 chill swept across several regions of Jharkhand today, intensifying winter conditions across the state. Meteorological data indicated that cities including Ranchi, Daltonganj, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Garhwa recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C, marking a significant drop compared to seasonal norms.
The steep decline in temperatures has been attributed to the free flow of cold north-westerly winds, which have swept through the state, causing the mercury to plummet. According to meteorological statistics, minimum temperatures across Jharkhand are currently 2-3°C below their normal range for this time of year.
Ranchi recorded a sharp dip in temperatures, while Daltonganj and Bokaro also faced a bracing chill. Garhwa and Hazaribagh, known for their high-altitude terrain, reported similar sub-10 conditions, adding to the state-wide cold wave.
The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has also issued an advisory regarding shallow to moderate fog during the early morning hours. This fog is expected to persist in isolated areas across the state for the next three days, potentially impacting visibility and causing travel disruptions.
Speaking about the current weather pattern, an official from the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said, “The ongoing north-westerly wind pattern is expected to continue for the next 48 hours, keeping the minimum temperature low. Thereafter, temperatures may stabilize for a short period before further changes.”
The plunging temperatures have led to an uptick in demand for warm clothing and heating equipment, with locals bracing for harsher winter days ahead. Morning activities have slowed down as dense fog blankets several areas, prompting residents to adjust their schedules to cope with reduced visibility and freezing conditions.
Meanwhile, health officials have advised people to take precautions, especially the elderly, children, and those with respiratory conditions, as the chilly weather and fog could exacerbate health issues.
According to the forecast, Jharkhand’s cold wave will persist, with minimum temperatures expected to dip further over the next 48 hours. The subsequent stabilization of temperatures may offer temporary respite, but the overall winter trend suggests more intense cold spells in the coming weeks.
