Jamshedpur, Aug 4: Tata Steel Zoological Park celebrated Friendship Day to honor friendship with nature and biodiversity around.

This unique and undeniable friendship forms the basis of very existence.

A total of 36 rural under-privileged kids including their accompanying teachers from New Education & Environmental Vision (NEEV) Foundation, Hurlung which is a deprived area of Jamshedpur, participated in this year’s Friendship Day celebration.

The celebration included Zoo Visit, Museum Visit, educational program through ‘Touch n Learn’ and symbolic celebration of Friendship with the flora and fauna. The kids were shown various museum specimens through ‘Touch n Learn’ program. They were taught the difference between a horn and an antler, shown eggs of emu and ostrich and taught the importance of trees and nature conservation.

A symbolic gesture of tying of Friendship bands to the trees and outside animal enclosure were done spreading the message to society that “Plants and Animals are our friends, Save them, Save Yourself”. The program was coordinated by Dr. Seema Rani, Biologist-cum-Education Officer, Tata Zoo along with Research and Education Team consisting of Pratap Gill and Zoo volunteer Sayok Sarkar.

Friendship Day is celebrated internationally on the first Sunday of August every year to commemorate the relationship between friends. This year the Friendship Day is celebrated on 4 August 2024.
