Student Union demands increase in seats of Baharagora College

Jamshedpur, July 31 : Members of the Jharkhand ChhatraMorcha are protesting in front of Baharagora College, Baharagora in favour of increasing seats in intermediate, undergraduate and post graduate courses.These students are on a hunger strike for the third day in a row so that authorities can accept their demand to increase their seats.�We will continue our strike till the Jharkhand Academic Council and the Kolhan University do the needful to increase seats,� said JCM leader from Jamshedpur Hariram Tudu.

In Baharagora College, there are about 1500 seats in intermediate arts, science and commerce but this year there were more than 2000 applicants.

Baharagora College principal, S.P. Mahalikthough tried to end their strike but JCM members are in no mood to stop. Though the agitation have started from Baharagora College.

Student�s union representatives said that they had recently met the principal and made him aware about their demands. They had also threatened that if they would close the college gates in case their demands to increase the seats were not increased.

�This time we have made elaborate arrangements to make sure that the students seeking admission get their seats without any difficulty. But the strike has resulted to the braw back,� said a professor.

On the other hands students� organisation are also in demand to increase the faculty strength in the colleges. They said that appointments of new teachers are essential to improve the academic scenario. Students� organisations like NSUI SanyuktChatraSangh are waging the cause. These organisations are also planning to launch a sustained campaign against the university.
