Jamshedpur, May 13: Employees at the Bhuinyadih Swarnarekha Burning Ghat under Sitaramdera police station went on strike on Monday, disrupting funeral services from morning till noon. Mourners with dead bodies were turned away leading many to proceed to the Bistupur Parvati Ghat to perform the funeral rites.

The striking employees demanded permanent employment, minimum wages, provident fund (PF), and other benefits. Their grievance stemmed from the alleged withholding of Rs 1500, due to them. Pawan Agarwal, a BJP leader, intervened to support the workers while the Sitaramdera police station In-charge arrived at the scene for negotiations.

Following discussions, the withheld Rs 1500 was promptly paid and further talks had been scheduled in three days to address the remaining demands. Subsequently, the employees resumed their duties, and funeral services resumed.
