Steel City Telugus celebrate Ugadi with gaiety, award book-grants worth Rs 26 K


Jamshedpur, March 18: Telikula Sangham, Jamshedpur celebrated Ugadi (Telugu New Year’s Day) on Sunday, at Agrico Club House, Agrico, wherein around 75 families gathered and celebrated the day with pomp & gaiety and also exchanged greetings.

Ugadi is the New Year’s Day for the people of Andhra Pradesh. It is festively observed in this region on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra.

“Ugadi Pachchadi” is one such auspicious dish that has become synonymous with Ugadi, bitter-sweet chutney is made from Neem buds, jaggery, raw mango, tamarind juice and seasoned with chilly, pepper and salt. Symbolically it signifies the six different tastes of life: ranging from bitterness, sweetness and sadness to surprise, anger, fear and disgust.

During the felicitation, 28 students were honoured with Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals with Certificates of Achievement, 4 of the students are school topers and 6 students were declared as All-round Performers in the Academic studies during 2017-18.

14 students, who come under low income group, were awarded book-grants worth Rs. 26,300/- for the year 2018-19 by Telikula Sangham.

Further, A Special Award namely “BETI BACHAV – BETI PADAV” with a Cash Prize of Rs.1000/- was presented to Kumari Jami Hema, who secured 93.75% Marks in her VIII th Std., in memory of Late SwarnaLata alias Sushila, D/o. Late Yallenki Appala Murthy, Karandih, Jamshedpur, as motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It may be noted that Telikula Sangham was established in the year 2010 in Jamshedpur, comprising of 32 Executive Members, mainly with an aim to uplift the poor people at par with well to do section of society.
