Steel city runs to ‘beat plastic pollution’

Environmental imbalance growing fast; need for introspection: SSP

Jamshedpur: Around 1000 people of the city participated in the Run For Refuse organized by the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on the second day of the four-day long ‘6R Conclave’ on Sunday. The event was a part of the ongoing campaign of the JNAC to free the city from plastic pollution and make it environment-friendly.

The participants comprising representatives from various social organizations, district police department, educational institutions, ex-servicemen and individuals started the run from Modi Park to Jubilee Park Gate No 1 through Jubilee Park gate No 2, zoo parking and Jayanti Sarovar. The route of the marathon was chosen to pass through forested area, zoo and lake with the view to give a message on environment conservation.

The chief guest of the programme was the Senior Superintendent of Police of Jamshedpur, Anoop Birtharay. In his address, he said the environmental imbalance had increased in the last several years.

If humans do not wake to the call for changing their habits, very soon things may change for the worse, he said.
The SSP praised the JNAC officials and all the participants for organizing and attending the event on environment conservation.

JNAC Special Officer Sanjay Kumar, DSP traffic Vivekananda Thakur and JAP 6 Association president Baikunth Sharma too, stressed on saving the environment by abstaining from using polythene bags. They said the city should be made completely free of polythene.

Kumar said the city residents had changed their attitude and supported the ‘no polythene’ campaign. He said the people should refuse polythene bags and other products that are hazardous for human health and environment.

All four City Managers of JNAC were present during the run along with the other staff. Members of National Service Scheme wing of Karim City College, Morning Walkers’ Group, Scouts and Guides, Poorva Sainik Parishad and other outfits were also present on the occasion.
