Chandrasekaran felicitates Bachendri Pal

Jamshedpur: City paid homage to its founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 180th birth anniversary on Sunday. Tata Sons chairman, N. Chandrasekaran paid tribute to the greater visionary and promised a better city and a better tomorrow.

Chandrasekaran arrived at the Tata Steel Works along with Koushik Chatterjee, executive director and chief financial officer, Tata Sons and Tata Steel CEO and managing director, T.V. Narendran.

Also present was former Tata Steel managing director J.J. Irani and other dignitaries. The Founder’s Day programme inside the Tata Steel Works kicked off at 7:30 am. Chandrasekaran along with others also visited Tata Motors before they arrived to celebrate it here.

Tata Steel showcased its tryst with �Technovation�. The theme of this year�s celebration was �Technovation�.

More than 35 departments and subsidiaries of Tata Sons participated in pageantry to pay homage to the founder.

Jamshedpur FC players also participated in the parade as a part of corporate services. About 10 subsidiaries also presented beautiful tableau representing their area of improvement and achievements.

Founder�s Day was first instituted by Tata Steel on March 3, 1932. It was D N Madan, Chief Accountant, Tata Iron and Steel Company, who first conceived the idea of observing and celebrating an annual gathering to commemorate the birth anniversary of J.N. Tata.

Founder�s day provided him with an opportunity of expressing his regard for the memory of the genius to whose faith and adjustment, energy and perseverance, the works, the towns and the environs of Jamshedpur bear enduring witness.�

“I feel great to be here on this occasion. I am happy that Jamshedpur has completed its 100 years with the support of the entire community.

We hope that it continues for the next 100 years as Tata Steel is already on growth chart,” said Chandrasekaran in a media briefing.

On the occasion Narendran said, “We have continued investing in the city in some or the other form and don�t wait for 100 years�.

The chairman also flagged off the pageantry later which was organised from the Bistupur Postal Park.

A number of social organisations participated in the pageantry with colourful display of how the vision of J.N. Tata gave birth to this industrialisation. The chairman also addressed the denizens here.

The Floats and the March Past were judged by a Panel and later during the Day, the names of the prize winners were announced. Float�Winner �Shared Services, Float Runner-up �Raw Materials & FAMD.

Marching�Contingent Winner �Corporate Services and Marching Contingent Joint Runners-Up � Tata Workers� Union & ISWP

At the postal Park, Chandrasekaran also felicitated mountaineer Bachendri Pal who recently was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award. The chairman along with Narendran and other executives also released ‘Reaching for the Sky: When Everest Calls’ at the Bistupur Postal Park.
