Around 175 athletes from 20 districts to compete in athletics and badminton events
Jamshedpur, Feb 5: The 25th State Level Athletics Championship and the 6th State Level Badminton Championship 2026 are being jointly organised by the Paralympic Committee of Jharkhand and the East Singhbhum District Paralympic Association at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur.
Sharing details of the event at a press meet on Wednesday, Jharkhand State Paralympic Committee General Secretary Kumar Gaurav, along with host district officials Purvi Ghosh (President) and Jagannath Behera (Secretary), said that nearly 175 differently-abled athletes from around 20 districts of Jharkhand will participate. The districts include East and West Singhbhum, Seraikela Kharsawan, Ranchi, Koderma, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Deoghar, Giridih, Godda, Sahibganj, Dumka, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Ramgarh, Lohardaga and Latehar.
Athletes aged 18 years and above will compete in both men’s and women’s categories in athletics and badminton. The championship will begin on February 6 at 10:00 am and will be inaugurated by Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports, Tata Steel. The closing ceremony will be attended by retired IAS officer and President of the Jharkhand Paralympic Committee, Jatashankar Choudhary, as the chief guest.
A total of 18 events will be held as part of the athletics championship. Winners will be awarded medals, certificates and championship trophies. Accommodation arrangements have been made for participants at the JRD Stadium.
Around 20 technical officials are overseeing the smooth conduct of the competitions. Organisers said that all preparations are nearly complete and athletes have started arriving since February 5.
The event is being supported by Tata Steel, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel Club and several social workers.
