Jamshedpur to Host State-Level ‘Bangiya Utsav 2026’ on February 1; Cultural Extravaganza at Gopal Maidan

Jamshedpur: In a major initiative to preserve and promote Bengali language and folk heritage within Jharkhand, the State-Level Bangiya Utsav 2026 is set to illuminate Bistupur’s iconic Gopal Maidan on Sunday, February 1. The day-long festival, scheduled to begin at 10 AM, aims to unify the Bengali-speaking community and showcase the rich cultural tapestry of the region.

A Platform for Heritage and Tradition

Speaking at a press conference held at Milani Auditorium, Anshu Sarkar, President of the Bangiya Utsav Committee and renowned Yoga Guru, emphasized that the festival serves as a vital platform for folk traditions, music, and spiritual practices. “Our goal is to ensure that the Bengali language and its vibrant cultural roots continue to thrive across Jharkhand’s diverse districts,” Sarkar stated.

The event announcement was attended by key committee members including Chairman Parthasarathi Chatterjee, Executive President Aparna Guha, and General Secretary Uttam Guha.

Star-Studded Cultural Lineup

The festival promises a mix of spiritual, classical, and folk performances:

  • Spiritual Beginnings: A special yoga demonstration by Sarkar Yoga Academy and devotional music by Pupinki Ashram and Akhand Mandali (Chas).
  • Classical & Contemporary Dance: Kathak and Rabindra Sangeet performances by Soumi Bose, Sandeep Bose, and Sudipta Das. Traditional acts will also be presented by Natraj Sangeet Vidyalaya (Chaibasa) and Mansi Music Dance Academy (Ghatshila).
  • Musical Highlights: A unique flute and mouth organ duet by Ashok Das and Vikas Kumar.
  • Evening Gala: Renowned folk singer Arpita Chakraborty will headline the evening session, following performances by the Sur Sangam group from Malda and Sajal Banerjee’s team from Ranchi.

Honoring Contributions

In a move to recognize grassroots efforts, 25 organizations from across Jharkhand will be felicitated for their dedication to cultural preservation. The program will also include Bhagavad Gita recitations by local children, highlighting the fusion of spirituality and culture.

Several high-profile guests are expected to attend, including:

  • Deepak Birua, Jharkhand Government Minister
  • Supriyo Bhattacharya, Chief Patron
  • Gautam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur
  • Dr. Saurojyoti Dey, Chief of Technical Services, Tinplate Company
  • Sandeep Ghosh Chowdhury, Director of NML

The committee has appealed to the residents of the Steel City to participate in large numbers to celebrate the “composite cultural heritage” of the state.
