Jamshedpur: A three member State Level Expert Appraisal Committee of Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India visited the site of Jyoti Pahari open cast Kyanite Project, owned by JSMDC Ltd (Jharkhand State Mines Development Corporation Limited) and located in Baharagora, East Singhbhum.
The team comprises SBS Chauhan, Dr. RPS Sangu and Dr. MC Mehta.
The abovementioned project site, encompassing an area of 20.33 hectare has not been given the ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) by the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board and thus still it needs environmental clearance from MoEF. Works have been pending here since 7thof July 2012 due to non availability of environmental clearance.
In the direction of felicitating the environmental clearance to the project, the SEAC team visited the site of the project and took stock of the ground reality prevailing there with respect of various compliance reports sent by the proprietor on conditions stipulated by JSPCB at the time of granting of consent, on conditions stipulated by DMO at the time of granting of lease.
The team also took details of CSR activities and plantation carried out there as well the details of flora and fauna in and around the project site. It also instructed the officials concerned to carry out the plantation up to width of 7.5 metre in the periphery areas, reclamation of wasteland and construction of pond in the pit areas.
Officials said the proprietor of the project is required to provide the clarifications once site visit is completed. Thereafter SEAC will refer the matter to State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority for further action.
