Jamshedpur, Sept. 16 : Following suicide by 15 year old girl allegedly after being humiliated and scolded by a school priest at Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district,a team of police led by sub-divisional police officer, Chaibasa Sadar, Prakash Soy started investigation into the circumstances leading to the step.
The deceased, Jyoti Bari, who was a resident of Patahatu village in Chaibasa Muffasil police station was a student of class X at the St Xavier’s High School was found hanging at her house on Saturday morning.
The deceased’s mother Lilamati Bari had lodged an FIR alleging a priest of that missionary school to have tortured and humiliated her on Friday which prompted her to take an extreme step.
West Singhbhum superintendent of police, IndrajeetMahatha who is monitoring the case said that it was too early to comment as to what led to suicide but they are getting the case thoroughly probed before reaching to a conclusion.
“A three member team of police officials led by SDPO, Prakash Soy has started probe into the case. The team has started investigation and is expected to submit its report in a day or two,” said Mahatha. He said they cannot rush to a conclusion and take action anyone on the basis of the FIR only.
The police on Sunday registered a case on the FIR lodged by the deceased’s mother Lilamati Bari. In the FIR, Lilamati has mentioned that her daughter who was a student of class X had gone to school on Friday morning despite being sick. According to the FIR, as the deceased did not say anything clearly except that a father tortured her, her elder sister went over to the St Xavier High School taking her along in the evening and contacted one of the fathers for knowing what had meted out to Jyoti.
