Jamshedpur : In a first time initiative to streamline the functioning of police drivers, the East Singhbhum district police have reshuffled all the 117 drivers in the district.
Senior superintendent of police Anoop T Mathew has taken the step for curbing corrupt practices between the officials posted at police stations that used to be channelised through the police drivers.
Of the 117 police drivers changed from one place of posting to another, 77 belonged to Home Guards, where as the remaining 40 police drivers are from the district police.
Revealing about the mass reshuffle, senior SP, Mathew said that the police drivers have been changed from one place to another as most of them were posted in the same police stations for decades.
He noted that the reshuffle, effective at the steel city as well as the rural areas of the district was a routine affair of the district police.
“We have found that those police drivers, whether belonging to the police department or Home Guard, have developed closeness with some groups and the police officers, especially for the officer-in-charge of any police station,” said the senior SP.
Mathew said that the police drivers who were from the Home Guards have been shifted from one police station to another inside the city, where as the drivers who are from the district police have been shifted from the rural areas from the city and vice versa.
” We have decided that these police drivers would be reshuffled every year so that they may not take any undue advantage of remaining close to the officer-in-charge of a police station for longer period,” said the senior police officer.
