Jamshedpur : Shree Sakchi Gujarati English ( SSGE ) School students of Std. VIII, IX and X accompanied by their teachers, Rekha Sharma, Mrs. V Padma, Rajni Kumari and Kamalpreet Kaur visited CSIR-NML, Jahedpur and interacted with the scientists and research fellows this morning under the aegis of faculty training and adoption of Schools sponsored by CSIR-HRDG, .New Delhi. The students were thrilled to visit the laboratory and interact with the working groups.
Vinita Sharma a Std.IX student said, “Every information provided at CSIR-NML were new and motivating”. “The visit has given me more clarity in pursuance of my future goal”, said Raveena Khosla another Std X student. Gurpreet Kaur, a student of Std.I X said, “I had learnt how steel giant companies like Tata Steel is also helped by CSIR-NML. I barely knew this earlier. It is truly amazing and fascinating”. I am thrilled to know about the use of commercially available CSIR-NML Know-how based product “Sybograf Hydroxyapatite”- Bone graft for Dental surgery, said Purno Das, a Std IX student.
The students expressed their excitement and happiness over the laboratory visit as well as interaction with the scientists and research scholars. In fact, they were thrilled while visiting the labs and looking at the practical set- ups. Jayanti Singh said, “I came to know about new things here like India�s first Super computer PARAM designed by CSIR in 1986, Swaraj Tractor used in farming based on CSIR technology, the importance of patent and its impact, which I barely knew earlier.
It was a wonderful experience rejuvenating my thought process”. Another Std. X student, Anu Kumari said, “We are thrilled to know about CSIR lab’s contribution in the introduction of DNA Fingerprinting in India. We hardly knew that the technology developed by the CSIR scientists in the preparation of molecular database for Basmati”.
Debika Namata was excited to learn about the Tissue Culture technique, firstly reported by CSIR scientists that made the bamboo plant bloom within a month which normally takes hundred years. She felt Science can change our life quality. Therefore, she felt her “career in science can help one serving the society in near future.” Riya Gupta, a StdVIII student added, “I came to know about the preparation of steel, deep sea mining, recycling of waste materials, manufacturing of bio compatible products, commercial use of lime stone, magnesium and many more elements”. Thanks to CSIR-NML.
The programme has been designed to give the students an exposure to modern laboratory conditions and to develop a positive feeling towards science for a career prospect. The programme was scheduled for four hours which comprised of an overview of Indian Science and Technology, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML, visit to NML Museum/ Archive/ selective units of the laboratory.
“Study something that triggers a passion inside you and motivates you and ultimately one will start loving the subject which will always be helpful in better understanding” , said Dr. N.G. Goswami, CSIR-NML Chief Scientist and Co-ordinator of the programme. Most of the students said that the interaction was very informative and brought about lot of ideas. Teachers and many students requested for their next visit to the laboratory.
