Jamshedpur, June 15: Students from Srinath University’s Department of Physics and School of Engineering embarked on an exciting two-day academic tour to the Indian Centre for Space Physics (ICSP) in West Bengal. Organized in academic collaboration with ICSP, the initiative offers a rare hands-on opportunity for students to delve into the world of astrophysics and space science.
The highlight of the tour is sky-watching through Eastern India’s largest 24-inch diameter reflecting telescope, giving students a chance to observe celestial bodies and participate in real-time cosmic exploration. Guided by renowned scientists and engineers from ICSP, the students are engaged in practical learning that goes far beyond conventional classroom education.
The program features interactive sessions with ICSP experts, providing students with in-depth knowledge of space research, astrophysical phenomena, and observational techniques. Dr. Sudarshna Banerjee, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, described the initiative as a milestone in promoting scientific curiosity and fostering research aptitude among students. “This program is designed to ignite a passion for space science while building a strong foundation in the principles of astronomical observation,” she noted.
Concluding on June 17, the tour also includes a post-visit research component, where students will consolidate their experience and observations into a detailed research paper. This blend of theory, practice, and research highlights Srinath University’s strong emphasis on experiential learning and its mission to cultivate future scientists and innovators.
The academic tour to ICSP marks a significant leap in the university’s efforts to provide students with real-world exposure to emerging scientific fields and inspire a new generation of space science enthusiasts.
