Srinath Public School students visit CSIR-NML Jamshedpur for science exposure

Jamshedpur, Aug 22: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, organised a laboratory visit for 54 students and two teachers of Srinath Public School under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual Laboratory project. The visit aimed to promote scientific awareness and introduce students to research and innovation.

The day began with an inaugural programme where CSIR-NML Director, Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, delivered a welcome address. He highlighted the institute’s contributions to technological development and pioneering research over the past 75 years. Dr. Sarmistha Sagar, Chief Scientist and HOD, IMDC, further explained the importance of CSIR-NML and its role in advancing research and development.

Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist at IMDC, elaborated on the objectives of the Jigyasa programme, emphasising its vision of fostering scientific curiosity among school students and strengthening their engagement with scientists.

As part of the visit, students explored different research laboratories, including the Applied and Analytical Chemistry Division, creep testing facilities, non-destructive testing of metals, e-waste recycling, and brass melting units. They also witnessed demonstrations of DIY kits designed to spark hands-on learning.

Students and teachers expressed their appreciation for the enriching experience and described the visit as highly informative and inspiring.
