Jamshedpur, May 5: The 100th birth anniversary of Kiranmayee Dey, wife of freedom fighter and founder of Sreeleathers, Suresh Chandra Dey will be celebrated as the Year of Women Empowerment. This announcement was made by social worker and partner of Sreeleathers, Shekhar Dey on Friday, May 5 at a programme organized at the K Road showroom in Bistupur to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Kiranmayee Dey. Shekhar Dey said while making the announcement that the Women’s Empowerment Year would be implemented through various programmes. Sreeleathers was simultaneously celebrating its 70th Foundation Day on the occasion.

“Jamshedpur is known as the city of Tata Steel and Sreeleathers and naturally, our responsibility towards allround uplift of women is all the more enhanced. Swami Vivekanand believed that both, men and women play an important role in social development. Treading on Swami Ji’s observation, we continue to work towards that end in our own humble way while the Sreeleathers family continues to grow from strength to strength through its initial days,” stated Shekhar Dey.
While speaking on Sreeleathers’ implementation of Women Empowerment Year, Shekhar Dey said that good suggestions by citizens would be included in the year long schedule. “This year-long programme will be implemented across cities where we have our presence,” he informed.

Earlier, at the commencement of Kiranmayee Dey’s birth centenary programme, Shekhar Day, while cutting the centenary cake in the presence of several ladies among other guests, also inaugurated the Women Empowerment Year project. Among the several guests, many spoke on their recollections of the life and times of Kiranmayee Dey.
Among the speakers was 90 year old Bhavesh Chandra Deb, who, while highlighting the life of Kiranmayee Dey, described her as the embodiment of perseverance, courage and sacrifice.
Jharna Kar, Alpana Bhattacharjee, Haro Gauri Mahto, Bimal Chakraborty and Meera Sharma along with several dignitaries and employees of Sreeleathers were present on the occasion.

Kiranmayee Dey was a lady of genial nature and kind heart. But her determination, perseverance, courage and sacrifice marked her as a woman of fortitude whose ideas, views and suggestions were gratefully accepted by people who were highly qualified. Kiranmayee Dey was not very educated but her common sense and practical concepts made her stand tall among people.
Her marriage with revolutionary Satish Chandra Dey turned out to an ideal partnership as she became the pillar of support in realizing her husband’s dreams. She was an exemplary homemaker. A loving and caring mother, a pillar of strength and confidence to her husband, Kiranmayee Dey was the epitome of cherished womanhood.
