Jamshedpur: Burglars are wreaking havoc on steel city by targeting households and shops in various police station areas these days. Four major thefts have taken place in the last few days in different parts of the city, thereby exposing serious security chinks and failure of police in curbing the crime.
One of the incidents took place at 115, New Layout Area of Sitaramdera in the house of one Chhaya Mehta. The entire family had gone on the pilgrimage of the Holy Vaishno Devi. Thieves took away cash and jewelry worth several lakh by breaking into the house on Monday night. The thieves broke locks of five rooms and three lockers. The owner of the house, Jayesh Mehta is a petroleum engineer in Malaysia. His sister Nisha Modi said she was informed about the incident by the neighbours of her borther. An FIR was lodged in this connection in the morning.
In another incident, thieves stole cash and jewelry worth several lakh from the house of a Jusco employee, Shailesh Kumar, in Truck Park locality under Telco police station area at Road Number 30. The thieves broke open two safes and took away gold and silver jewelry. Shailesh is the son of former district Congress president Ramashraya Prasad. Shailesh and his wife Nimita Singh were not in the city when the theft took place. They were in Shirdi at the time of theft.
A third incident took place in the house of former Ranji cricketer Ashok Pal at Duplex Number 2 in Vastu Vihar at Baliguma under MGM police station area on Tuesday. Pal was preparing to go out for jogging when he found the room at the ground floor shut. When he went inside he saw the grill of the window dismantled. The thieves took away jewelry and Rs 15,000 from the house late yesterday night. Police have lodged an FIR in this connection.
Another incident took place in Northern Town beside Straight Mile Road at Bistupur on Sunday night. Valuables worth Rs 30,000 were stolen from the house of Shilpi Prasad. An FIR was lodged by Prasad against unidentified persons.
Police have not made any headway in most of the cases. They claimed local police stations had been alerted after the spurt in theft.
