Sporting events, quiz, drawing mark International Olympic Day in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 23: To mark International Olympic Day 2024, the District Sports unit of East Singhbhum organized a series of competitions across Jamshedpur. The events included handball, volleyball, quiz, and drawing competitions, all centered around themes of Ancient and Modern Olympics, alongside an anti-drug abuse campaign.

The handball competition, held at the Handball Day Boarding Center in Ramdas Bhatta Bistupur, saw participation from nine teams—six boys’ teams and three girls’ teams. St. Mary’s emerged victorious in both categories.

In the volleyball competition, hosted at the Day Boarding Volleyball Center, eight teams competed. The Young Boys Club won in the boys’ category, while the Day Boarding Team Greenhouse clinched the girls’ title.

The main event, a quiz and drawing competition, took place at People’s Academy School, New Baradwari, Jamshedpur. Enthusiastic participation was witnessed from 14 city schools. The quiz competition saw RMS Balichela Sonari securing first place, BPM Plus Two High School second, and Harijan School Bhalubasa third. Fourth and fifth places were awarded to RMS Balichela Sonari and Tata Workers Union School Kadma, respectively.

• First: Aman Chatar, Jamshedpur High School
• Second: Samreen Firoz, Sunrise Public School
• Third: Sudha Kumari, Adivasi Plus Two High School
• Consolation: Sapna Kumari, Mithila High School; Sneha Rani Sinku, CM Excellence School Sakchi

Chandradeep Pandey, Principal of New Baradwari People’s Academy, served as the chief guest, honoring winners with trophies, medals, certificates, and souvenirs. The successful execution of the event was attributed to the efforts of District Sports Office employees, school teachers, and Sports Coordinator Shyam Kumar Sharma, who also acted as the organizer and quiz master.
