Jamshedpur: The district administration will made special traffic arrangement for the Bistupur and Sakchi market, keeping the vehicular congestion in mind during the festive occasion.
During the Diwali and Chhath, entry of heavy vehicles and empty auto-rickshaw will be restricted to ensure easy movement of the private cars and two wheelers in the road leading to the twin marketplaces.
Deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Vivekanand Thakur said that due to Diwali there is tremendous crowd of customers at the shops, especially at jewelry, utensils and electronic shops. He noted that for ensuring a smooth shopping by the Diwali revelers, they have restricted the entry of heavy vehicles into Bistupur market and also the entry of empty auto-rickshaw both in Bistupur and Sakchi markets so that traffic congestion does not take place.
Another official said that for restricting the entry of auto-rickshaws and heavy vehicles, three traffic cops will be deployed at each of the entry point in Sakch and Bistupur market place. He said the cops will also help in removing congestion besides preventing the commercial vehicles from entering into the market.
The traffic policemen said they had intensified towing of vehicles parked wrongly on roadsides, especially on the busy roads and in markets. The traffic cops said they had got special instructions against letting any wrongdoer go unpunished. Traffic cops said they were laying special emphasis on ensuring smooth movement of traffic around the main markets so that visitors do not face any inconvenience
Starting from Dhanteras to Chhath, the marketplaces in Sakchi and Bistupur get unusually crowded. On Dhanteras day, shops remains open till late in the night and traffic snarls become a frequent phenomena at the crossing due to the huge influx of vehicles, causing immense inconvenience to the people.
Meanwhile, the district police have tightened its belts and made special security arrangement at the prominent marketplaces in the steel city as a run up for the festival.
The police have deployed Quick Response Teams at Sakchi, Golmuri, Bistupur, and Mango markets in view of the unprecedented rush there. The QRT personnel, which also include women are equipped with wireless sets, batons and pistols.
A senior police officer said that the QRT which is a part of the district police will remain deployed at the four markets.
“We have identified the sensitive teams where the special focus would be laid. In all four teams, each comprising of 30 police personnel will be engaged in each of the markets. When a section of the team will remain static at strategic points in a market, another section will keep moving inside the marketplace during these three days,” said the police official.
