Jamshedpur, June 17: Acting on the tip off city police arrested a key member of the criminal interstate gang in Golmuri under Golmuri Police Station who along with his group was about to kidnap a city based business man on Tuesday morning. The crime graph in Steel city is rising with every passing day and the residents and living with fear.
The arrested man was identified as Santosh Rai alias Bhagna, resident of Shiwan district in Bihar, but the criminal was hiding at Azadnagar in Mango, the police have also seized a loaded pistol and a cartridge from the arrested person who has criminal records.
Talking to the scribes on Tuesday evening, Superintendent of police (city) Karthik S said that acting on a tip off that members of the criminal gang planned the abduction of a city-based businessman for extorting ransom but within due time the police nabbed the criminal.
�We had set up a special team acting on the tip off and laid trap to nab one of the key members of the gang who has several criminal records in his name,” said Karthik.
According to Karthik, Bhagna during questioning opened that the abduction plan had been produced by Mohammed Sajjat, who is presently in Ghaghidih Central Jail.
Karthik further informed that Bhagna knew nothing about the businessman who was supposed to be abducted. Bhagna would have known about the name and whereabouts of the businessman only after getting necessary instruction from Sajjat. The criminals were supposed to earn Rs 5 crores as ransom once the abduction was over.
Karthik said that the arrested was charge-sheeted for committing two incidents of abduction in Calcutta in 2004 and 2006 respectively and had extorted Rs 4 lakh and 5 lakh from two businessmen.
Police officials should act rapidly and nab the criminals before they commit such crime and with the crime graph rising there is a need for quick action from Police side so that residents of the city can sleep fearlessly.
