Jamshedpur: State water resources, social welfare, women and child development minister Annapurna Devi convened a meeting on Wednesday to review progress of various projects in East Singhbhum.
The minister called for organizing special disability camps all over the state next month. She said the state welfare department had asked the child development project officers (CDPOs) in all districts to organize the camps.
The CDPOs have been asked to conduct survey to find out the number and status of physically and intellectually challenged persons in all the districts of the state. This will help the state government take policy decisions regarding the welfare of such people and implement various welfare schemes accordingly, said the minister.
Annapurna Devi said many people had complained to her that they faced difficulty in getting disability certificate. The district authorities concerned have been directed accordingly to take measures to remove such practical difficulties, she said.
The minister went on to add that the declining attendance of children in anganbari centres across the state was a matter of concern. The CDPOs will be teaming up with the local panchayat officials to not only find the cause of the decreasing attendance rate but also take measures to improve the situation. Special attention will be given to deal effectively with hunger and malnutrition cases.
The minister said a project worth Rs 6,613 crore under the Subernarekha Multipurpose Project (SMP) is all set to be completed by the end of the year 2015. The SMP, started in 1978, started off with the construction of two dams. One of the dams was built at Chandil over River Subarnarekha while the other was built over River Kharkai in West Singhbhum. Besides, two barrages were constructed at Galudih over Subarnarekha and on the Kharkai at Ganjia in Seraikela-Kharsawan along with several canals, she said.
