Mail News Service

Jamshedpur: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Eastern Railway (SER) has been playing a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of rail passengers, especially women. Recognizing the importance of women’s safety, SER has introduced various initiatives such as ‘Meri Saheli’, ‘Matri Shakti’, and ‘Matangini’ to provide secure travel experiences for women, particularly those on long-distance trains.

Operation ‘Meri Saheli’
The ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative is aimed at assisting and securing women passengers, especially those traveling alone. Special ‘Meri Saheli’ teams are deployed across key stations within the South Eastern Railway network, providing proactive assistance to ensure a safe journey. These teams currently escort 115 trains and conduct regular drives to prevent unauthorized travel in ladies’ coaches.

Operation ‘Matri Shakti’
Another significant initiative is ‘Matri Shakti’, designed to support pregnant women passengers. This team is dedicated to providing timely assistance to pregnant mothers during their travel. In 2023, 13 pregnant women received help during childbirth, and 5 women have been assisted in childbirth up to October 2024. The RPF’s swift action ensures the well-being of both mother and child during their journey.
