South Eastern Railway RPF detects high value misappropriation of railway material

Kolkata, June 29: An alarming case of high-value misappropriation of railway materials has been detected by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Eastern Railway. The incident came to light during a routine handover of store charge between two Inspectors, where discrepancies in the distribution of UPS units and their accessories procured in 2022 were identified by the incoming Inspector.

Upon discovery, the matter was promptly escalated to the RPF administration, which swiftly initiated an enquiry through the Internal Vigilance Group (IVG) of RPF/S.E.R. Subsequent investigation, as detailed in the IVG’s report dated June 20, 2024, confirmed the misappropriation of railway property. Prima facie evidence pointed towards the involvement and connivance of one Inspector, one Sub-Inspector, and one Head-Constable.

In response, the Inspector, Sub-Inspector, and Head-Constable have been placed under suspension, and departmental proceedings for major penalties have been initiated against them. Additionally, a criminal case under the RP(UP) Act has been registered at the RPF Post, Garden Reach, Kharagpur Division against the Inspector and others implicated. The estimated value of the misappropriated railway property amounts to approximately ₹17,65,456. Further investigations into the matter are continuing.
