Jharkhand has lot of potential in agriculture and fisheries: Thai Consul General
Jamshedpur, May 19: The logo and website of Sona Devi University, Ghatshila in East Singhbhum was launched at a city hotel on Friday. The UGC-recognized private university was soft launched at the function.
Chief Guest for the occasion was Royal Thai Consulate General in Kolkata, Acharapan Yavaprapas and guest of honour was Jamshedpur SSP Prabhat Kumar.
Also present was Dr Lipi Ghosh, Vice Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Prabhakar Singh, Chairman of SDU and other dignitaries.
Chief Guest Acharapan Yavaprapas unveiled the logo of Sona Devi University and SSP Prabhat Kumar launched the website of the university.
Later, MoU was inked between Sona Devi University (SDU), Ghatsila and Thailand government to promote tourism, agriculture and fisheries sectors.
The MOU was signed by SDU chairman, Prabhakar Singh and Royal Thai Consulate General in Kolkata, Acharapan Yavaprapas.
Addressing the gathering, Acharapan Yavaprapas said Jharkhand is rich a mineral rich state and mineral wealth along with forests play an important role in development of the state. Jharkhand has a lot of potential in the field of agriculture and fisheries.
She stated that new research is being done in the field of agriculture and fisheries in Thailand which is proving to be beneficial.
Education has been commercialized: SSP
SSP Prabhat Kumar said that at present education has become commercialised. There has also been a decline in the level of education. I believe Sona Devi University will establish a new dimension in the education world in Jharkhand so that the youth of rural areas get better employment opportunities.
Vice-Chancellor of Sona Devi University, Prof. (Dr.) Lipi Ghosh discussed the future plans of the university as well as the efforts made to establish the standard of quality and job-oriented education.
She said, “Our priority is to provide world class education and agreements are being made with various countries at the international level so that local students can get global exposure.”
Prabhakar Singh, Chairman of Sona Devi University said the purpose behind establishment of Sona Devi University is to provide better platform for education as well as employment to the talented and meritorious students.
Sona Devi University is the only institution in Jharkhand which has signed agreement for various courses with international university, with its establishment.
As part of the agreement and under the Student Exchange Program, students from various universities including Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal and other countries will visit Sona Devi University for study and research purpose and students of Sona Devi University will also visit these foreign universities.
Dr Nirmala Shukla, Registrar of SDU along with other dignitaries were present.
Hope SDU produces Unicorn founders: Prabhat Sharma
Prabhat Sharma, former Head, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel asked, Why Jamshedpur is not producing unicorn (A privately-owned startup business worth more than $1 billion.) Sharma hoped Sona Devi University (SDU) may become first institution to produce unicorn founders and prepare students as per requirement of industry and society.
It is worth mentioning that the university was established in the year 2023 by Government of Jharkhand. The university is spread over 25 acres of land. The university campus is ready with administrative buildings, classrooms and laboratories. The management of the university is committed to ensure the establishment of the university as a center of academic excellence in the eastern region of the country. Sona Devi University offers courses in Nursing, Pharmacy, Paramedical, Agriculture, Fisheries, BBA, MBA, Humanities and Social Sciences, B. .Tech, will offer UG and PG courses in IT and computer programmes.
