Jamshedpur: On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day 2024, Sona Devi University hosted a special program, in the presence of the registrar, Prof. Dr. Gulab Singh “Azad”, alongside all university faculty and students. The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana performed by students Rakhi Mahato and Monali Mohanta.
Assistant Professor Monica Singh welcomed the distinguished guests and introduced the director, Assistant Professor Dr. Ratna Mukherjee. Dr. Mukherjee highlighted the significance of the event, explaining that World Youth Skills Day, initiated by the United Nations, has been celebrated globally every July 15th since 2014 to raise awareness about skill education and foster youth skill development.
The theme for this year’s event, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development,” was elaborated upon by university students Kashish Lala and Reema Manki, who emphasized the importance of students focusing on skill development. They delivered a detailed lecture on the subject, inspiring their peers to cultivate their abilities.
Addressing the assembly, Assistant Professor Dr. Neelmani Kumar from the Psychology Department underscored the importance of integrating skill development with education. He noted that skilled artisans never remain idle and can create employment opportunities for others. Dr. Kumar urged students to read the works of Swami Vivekananda for inspiration and motivation.
In his keynote address, Registrar Prof. Dr. Gulab Singh “Azad” highlighted the inseparability of peace and development. He remarked on the global instability in certain regions and the evolving nature of warfare with technological advancements. Prof. Dr. Azad encouraged students to combat ignorance, unemployment, and poverty, advocating for peace and development. He stressed the need for value-based quality technical education and the continuous development of skills to achieve both national and international peace, ultimately bringing honor to Sona Devi University and their state.
The event saw contributions from faculty members including Assistant Professor Umesh Gupta, Shraddha Suman Panda, Dr. Rajan Kumar, K.D. Dutta, A.D. Dutta, Dheeraj Sharma, and Meenakshi Kudada, whose collective efforts ensured the program’s success. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Assistant Professor Krishnendu Dutta, followed by the national anthem.
