Sohrai celebrated with traditional fervor

Saraikela, Nov 15: Sohrai is one of the leading festivals of the Adivasi community. The festival was observed with piety and gaiety at several places. The Adivasi community in Bhadugoda village of Dumra Panchayat in Gamharia Block celebrated Sohrai with traditional fervor. Jharkhand Minister for Labour and Adivasi and Minority Welfare Champai Soren addressed the people explaining the importance of the festival. He said, the Adivasi community is basically farmers and their oxen are their cultivation mates. He said that this festival was to celebrate this relationship. On this festive day, the oxen are bathed in rivers or ponds and dressed in coloured ribbons, paints and flowers. Sohrai is worship of nature and all living forms where the theme is harmonious living with love.

Villagers from neighboring villages also participated in the festivities. Minister Champai Soren distributed saris and dhotis among the poor villagers. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Gopal Mahto, Ramdas Tudu, Krishna Baskey, Ram Hansda, Dumra Panchayat Mukhiya Piyo Hansda, Gautam Mahto, Rajesh Bhagat, Indra Majhi and Lal Babu Mahto.
