Jamshedpur, April 18: Rise in temperature has forced the private schools in the city to change the timings yet again. From Tuesday, April 19, most of the private English-medium schools will run from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. after a decision in this regard was taken by the Jamshedpur Unaided Private School Association on Sunday.

The association, on Sunday, informed the schools about the change in timing through an e-mail and on Monday school managing committee had their consent and decided to go by the change in timing. Carmel Junior College will open at 6.25 a.m. instead of 6.30 a.m. and close at 9.45 a.m. instead of 11.30 a.m.

Similarly, Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma, will open at 6.30 a.m. and close at 10.30 a.m. instead of 11.30 a.m. from Tuesday.

Narbheram Hansraj English School will open at 6.30 a.m. and close at 10.55 a.m. instead of 11.30 a.m., while most of the schools will start at 6.30 a.m. and close at 10.30 a.m. from Tuesday.

Through an e-mail, the association informed the schools that after the dismissal at 11.30 a.m. it takes about an hour for most of the students to reach their house and the temperature is at its peak at 12.30 p.m.

This can take a toll on the health of the students and they can fall seriously ill. “This is the reason we should change the timings of the school which would be beneficial for all including students, teachers and other staff. On Monday, the schools sent messages to all the parents and the same was informed to all the van and auto drivers about the change in timing.”

“Seeing the rise in temperature with every passing day, Jamshedpur Unaided Private School Association has decided that schools should run classes from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. keeping in mind the children’s health,” said Beli Bodhanwala, president of the association.

Several private school managements are brainstorming on the issues in completion of courses if the dismissal time remains at 10.30 a.m. There are possibilities that summer vacation can be shortened and 5-7 days might be reduced so that the course can also be completed. Meanwhile, the association or the school management hasn’t released any official statement.

According to the weathermen, the temperature will be hovering between 44°C to 45°C till April 23. The busy roads of the town are seen empty during the afternoon and people are finding it difficult to move out due to hot and humid conditions even after the sunset.
