Smugglers cut teeth of two elephants, after killing them

Chaibasa : The corpses of two elephants were recovered from the jungle protected area under the Chambua Range in Keonjhar district of Odisha, adjoining the border of West Singhbhum district of Kolhan. It is suspected that the smugglers killed the elephants. The teeth of elephants have also been cut. Among the dead elephants were�a male and a female elephant. Initial investigations have revealed that the smugglers poisoned the elephants. After the information of the incident, DFO Santosh Mohan Joshi and Champua Range Officer Ghasinath Hembram started the investigation. Forest officials said the elephants were killed on Saturday night.�
For months, a herd of 18 elephants has been roaming at various places under the Champua range. The DFO said that the reason behind the death of the elephants is not clear. The truth will be known only after the post-mortem report arrives.�
