Slow progress in illegal building demolition by JNAC in Jamshedpur sparks concern

Jamshedpur, July 7: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has come under scrutiny for the slow pace of action against illegal constructions in the city. Despite marking 1146 illegal buildings identified in a PIL filed at the Jharkhand High Court, only 35 buildings have faced action over the past five months.

Critics allege that instead of a systematic approach, actions are sporadic and often target selected buildings, leaving others untouched. Many owners have purportedly converted basements into parking spaces with misleading stickers and token vehicles, awaiting an opportunity to convert them into commercial use once administrative scrutiny eases.

Krishna Kumar, Suburban Commissioner of JNAC, assured that no leniency would be shown towards illegal constructions. He emphasized that all marked buildings would face action sequentially as per issued orders, reaffirming the committee’s commitment to enforcing regulations rigorously.
