Jamshedpur, Dec 26: A state-of-the-art skill development centre will soon be established in Bandamunda under the Chakradharpur Railway Division to enhance the technical skills of railway employees. The South East Zone has allocated Rs 2.47 crore for the project, with operations expected to begin within a year.

The centre will focus on providing hands-on training with modern machinery to employees recruited through general degrees. A multi-departmental training centre is also being set up at Railway High School, Baghbeda, where various workshops and yards will utilize the facility. To accommodate the new setup, 9th and 10th-grade students have been relocated to the middle school campus.

“The centre will be a significant step towards modernizing technical training,” said a senior railway official. Employees currently sent to Sini for departmental training will benefit from localized facilities. Loco pilot training already available in Tatanagar will be supplemented with broader skill development programs.

Plans are underway to replicate such centers across all South East Zone divisions. “This initiative aims to bridge skill gaps among employees and prepare them for operating modern railway machinery,” the official added. The project promises a boost to workforce competence and operational efficiency.
