Jamshedpur, Dec. 30: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy was killed in a road mishap. The victim was in a bike along with his parents along Pata village on the NH-33 under Chandil police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as Aditya Dev.
The couple were going from their house in Chilgu in Chandil to a relative’s house at Ichagarh with their only child to celebrate the New Year when the mishap took place.
The accident took place when a dumper hit the bike from behind causing the vehicle to fall down. As the bike fell, the boy who was sitting pillion just behind his father fell on the road and was run over by the speeding dumper. The child’s father was also seriously injured as one of his legs came under the heavy vehicle.
The dumper driver, however, managed to escape the scene of mishap leaving his vehicle abandoned. Within a few minutes of the mishap, a police party arrived at the spot and recovered the mutilated body of the boy for shifting it to Seraikela divisional hospital for post-mortem, leaving the couple to wail.
The injured couple have been sent to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur where their condition is stated to be stable.
OC, Chandil thana, Sanoj Kumar Chaudhury confirmed about the mishap along the Pata village of the NH-33. ” We are investigating the incident. As per the initial probe, it appears that the bike-rider had tried to pass a big pot-hole on the road and as he came almost on the middle of the highway, the speeding dumper which was coming from behind hit the bike, causing the mishap,” said Chaudhury.
Significantly, number of road mishaps along NH-33 stretch near Chandil- Chowka has become mishap prone with regular road mishaps due to speeding and reckless driving.
On Monday, four persons from Adityapur died in a road mishap when the car in which they were travelling collided from behind with a stationary heavy vehicle near Ichagarh.
A cyclist had also lost life in a road mishap on December 26 after coming under a trailor near Chowka thana in Chandil.
Earlier this month two women died on the spot and several were injured during a head-on collision between a bus and tanker near Rangamati along NH-33.
