Six injured in violent run-up to Tinplate Gurudwara election

Jamshedpur: A controversy over alleged anomalies in Tinplate Gurudwara management snowballed into violence at Tinplate Gurudwara under Sidhgora police station area on Saturday in which six persons were injured.
Two of the injured were reported serious.

The injured were rushed to MGM Hospital doctors referred two of them to Tata Main Hospital. The victims sustained deep wounds in the limbs and shoulders, sources said. Those who have been shifted to Tata Main Hospital were identified as Gurucharan Singh Bille and Soni Singh, and those who are undergoing treatment were identified as Kuldeep Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Surjeet Singh and Sartaz Singh alias Taze, all residents of Tinplate and Golmuri.

The clash took place at about 11.30 am when the faction of Manjit Singh demanded the expense account from Bille who is the erstwhile president of the Tinplate Gurudwara where the elections are round the corner. As Bille faction refused to give the expense account, claiming that they have already given the expense account earlier.

On being allegedly humiliated by the members of Manjit Singh faction, the supporters of Bille manhandled members belonging to the Manjit Singh faction, causing them to get agitated. Manjit Singh’s men had subsequently attacked Bille’s supporters with swords and daggers, triggering a bloody clash, causing at least three persons including Bille to sustain injuries.

Bille’s supporters had also retaliated by attacking with daggers, causing three persons from the Manjit Singh faction to sustain injuries. As the clash was on someone informed the Sidhgora police. A team of police officer led by officerin-charge, Sambhu Nath Gupta arrived at the Tinplate Gurudwara and stopped the clash. The police subsequently rushed those injured to the medical college and hospital for treatment. Revealing about the clash Bille, who has sustained sword injuries in the shoulder, neck and right hand, said, “On being asked about the expense account, I told them that I have already given it a month ago.

Soon some among the rival group said that there was no need of my pres-ence at the Gurudwara as I am no longer the president. This way an altercation took place and the next moment it took an ugly turn.” Kuldeep Singh of Manjit Singh faction, when asked, said “we had asked Bille to give the expense account of his tenure. When he failed to do so, some of the supporters of Bille group got agitated and insulted the turban.

This had caused our men to assault them.” The election for a twoyear term of the Tinplate Gurudwara committee is round the corner. The clash took place when the outgoing executive committee led by Bille was preparing for a new election date of which is yet to be declared. Officer-in-charge, Sidhgora police station, Gupta said that the clash took place between the members of Tinplate Gurudwara committee.

He said as several persons were injured in the clash, the police would definitely take action against the guilty but after going through the CCTV footage of the clash. “As of now we have not received any written complaint. But, we will soon take action against the guilty persons involved in the clash by going through the CCTV footage,” said Gupta.
