Ranchi: The work of filing of nominations for six Lok Sabha constituencies of the state started with the issuance of the notification for the second phase polling on Wednesday. Six persons have filed nominations so far. Five of them filed the nominations today itself.
Those who filed nomination today include Ghuran Ram of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha from Palamu, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Ramapati Ranjan from Palamu, Congress candidate Rameshwar Oraon from Lohardagga, Haji Abidin of Bahujan Samaj Party from Chatra and Banwarik Sao of CPI from Chatra. BJP state president Dr Ravindra Rai had filed his nomination from Kodarma seat yesterday.
The chief election officer of Jharkhand PK Jajoria said the notification was issued for elections in Giridih, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Singhbhum, Khunti and Hazaribagh.
The nominations will be accepted till 26th March. They will be verified till 27th March. Candidates can withdraw the same till 29th March. Polling will be held on 17th May while the counting of votes will take place on 16th May.
Election Commission sources said a total of 442 cases of Model Code violation were registered in the state till date. In 98 cases, FIR has been lodged. Maximum number of cases (31) were lodged against the BJP. Excise department has seized 669 litres of illicit liquor and arrested 25 persons so far.
