Hazaribagh, Oct 18: In a heartbreaking incident, six children lost their lives as they drowned in the waters of Lotwa Dam in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. The deceased were identified as Rajnish Pandey, Sumit Kumar, Mayank Singh, Praveen Gope, Ishan Singh and Shivsagar Singh. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 11 am when a group of young individuals had embarked on a picnic to the location, situated approximately 25 kilometers from Hazaribag town, according to local authorities.
SP, Manoj Ratan Chothe, confirmed that the bodies of all six victims have been recovered and subsequently sent to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College for post-mortem examinations.
Expressing his grief and condolences, Chief Minister Hemant Soren conveyed, “My heart is heavy with the sorrowful news of the drowning of six children in Lotwa Dam of Hazaribagh district. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway, led by the district administration. I pray for peace for the souls of the children who tragically lost their lives in this accident and offer my strength and support to the grieving families during this difficult time.”
Jharkhand’s Health Minister, Banna Gupta, has assured that the government is actively engaged with the situation. He stated, “We have been informed about the drowning incident involving six students. Seven students had initially gone to the dam, and one of them has been accounted for as safe. The bodies of four out of the six victims have been recovered, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing for the remaining two. We are in constant contact with the officials. It is an extremely distressing incident.”
