Jamshedpur: City police beefed up security in Munshi Mohalla at Mango on Sunday in a bid to restore peace in the locality following a clash between two factions during an immersion procession Saturday evening.
A meeting of the local police station level peace committee members was also held today to ensure that peace prevails in the area. Members of all communities including senior citizens were asked to do their bit to promote peace and harmony in the area.
Keeping close watch on the situation, district administration deputed a company of paramilitary jawans to keep vigil on trouble-mongers in Munshi Mohalla. Armed police personnel were also deployed near Najiria Urdu School to maintain law and order.
Several youths and their supporters fell out yesterday evening during the immersion procession of Goddess Saraswati passing through Munshi Mohalla. Stones were pelted by both sides to disturb peace.
Showing promptness, SSP Anup T Mathew and other police officials rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Police patrolled the area round the clock after the clash.
