Singhbhum Chamber demands immediate establishment of permanent fire station in Jugsalai

Jamshedpur: The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has urged the state administration to immediately establish a permanent fire station in Jugsalai, citing the growing risk of fire incidents and the serious threat to life and property due to the absence of firefighting infrastructure in the area.

In a letter addressed to the Director General, Home Guards and Fire Services, Ranchi, M.S. Bhatia (IPS), SCCI President Manav Kedia highlighted that Jugsalai — one of the oldest and most densely populated areas of Jamshedpur — faces a high fire hazard owing to its narrow lanes, congested residential clusters, and thriving commercial establishments.

The letter pointed out that several fire incidents have occurred in the locality over the years, and the absence of a local fire station often results in delayed response, as fire tenders have to be dispatched from Golmuri or other distant stations. Such delays, it stated, increase the risk of extensive damage and loss during emergencies.

The Chamber further mentioned that a suitable site for a fire station in Jugsalai had been identified in a previous departmental survey, but no concrete action has been taken to date. The recent fire incident that occurred just before Diwali, which could have turned into a major tragedy, underscored the urgency of setting up a local fire response facility, the letter noted.

Emphasizing the need for proactive measures,  Kedia appealed to the Director General to prioritize and approve the establishment of a fire station in Jugsalai on an urgent basis. He said the move is essential not only for timely response to fire emergencies but also for ensuring the safety of residents, shopkeepers, and industrial units operating in the area.

“The Jugsalai area has become a high-risk zone. Setting up a fire station here is not just a necessity but a long-pending demand of local residents and traders,”  Kedia stated in the letter. He added that the Chamber hopes the administration will act swiftly to prevent any future loss of life or property.
