Ranchi, Nov 22: At the Jharkhand Assembly’s silver jubilee celebrations, Chief Minister Hemant Soren delivered a powerful address honouring the historic struggle behind the creation of Jharkhand and paying heartfelt tribute to those who shaped its destiny.
Drawing a poignant parallel, he asserted that Jharkhand’s long and arduous movement for statehood was no less demanding than India’s own freedom struggle.
Evoking the profound sacrifices of countless individuals, Soren placed special emphasis on the legacy of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren — revered as the guiding force of the statehood movement and a symbol of Jharkhand’s collective aspirations.
He reminded the gathering that the visionary leader, along with many other pioneers of the andolan, is no longer among us, but their ideals continue to illuminate the state’s path.

Acknowledging persistent disparities, the Chief Minister said that several regions remain socially and economically vulnerable, where communities are still battling for basic rights.
“The movement did not end with the formation of Jharkhand,” he noted and added “Our true tribute to the martyrs lies in ensuring justice and upliftment for every citizen.”
Highlighting the governance priorities of his administration, Soren underlined the importance of empowering people with constitutional awareness and strengthening socio-economic foundations.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to constitutional awareness, women’s upliftment, and strict accountability in governance, the Chief Minister asserted that Jharkhand would become a “golden bird” only when prosperity reaches every home across its 3.25 crore population.
He cited recent initiatives like Seva Saptah, designed to take government services to grassroots levels, and called for strict accountability among officials to ensure timely and transparent delivery of public schemes.
“A vehicle cannot move without fuel. Similarly, without financial stability and access to opportunity, no family can rise,” he explained, stressing support for economically weaker households.
Reflecting on the sequential silver jubilee celebrations of the Jharkhand government, the High Court, and now the Legislative Assembly, Soren said these milestones together signify a state firmly progressing on its development trajectory — despite the hurdles yet to be crossed.
The commemorative event — marking 25 years of Jharkhand Assembly — was inaugurated by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and attended by Assembly speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto, finance minister Radhakrishna Kishore, leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, chief whip Mathura Mahto, and several other dignitaries.
The day’s proceedings featured solemn tributes to martyred security personnel, the release of the 99th and 100th editions of the Assembly’s monthly magazine ‘Udaan’, and felicitations for distinguished athletes, students, writers, and former legislators who have contributed to the state’s pride and progress.
The celebrations culminated with vibrant cultural performances in the second session.
As Jharkhand charts its future, the memory of Shibu Soren — the steadfast guardian of its Jal, Jungle, Zameen — remains a resonant reminder of the struggle and spirit that continue to define its identity.
