Jamshedpur, Dec 23: Exactly on this date in 2019, the Assembly polls were held and the report cards of MLAs based on one year’s activities have come under scrutiny. Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency independent MLA Saryu Roy switching ends, from West to East emerged victorious in the race to the Jharkhand Assembly and has lived up to his reputation of ‘calling a spade a spade’ leaving detractors and ‘friendly’ leaders on tenterhooks to prevent being called up for slips in dispensing work on policies, projects or schemes meant for development, uplift of weaker segments and public amenities.
The executives and members of Bharatiya Janata Morcha (BJM) today celebrated the occasion at all city road crossings and main junctions distributing sweets and thanking the people for their support to and faith on Saryu Roy. The same scenes were observed in Jamshedpur West Assembly constituency.
At Birsanagar, the celebratory tone was vibrant as Saryu Roy was greeted at the Guria Maidan near Sunday Market with music bands and fire crackers. The independent legislator put garlands on the statues of Birsa Munda and Sidhu Kanhu and paid floral tributes. He distributed blankets among poor and needy people.
Earlier, Saryu Roy went to Bhuvaneshwar Temple in Telco and offered prayers at the shrine.

Interacting with the people, the Jamshedpur East legislator said, “Last year, I wass perplexed. I was in a Catch-22 situation. One person’s pride and corrupt ways led me to seek your shelter. I had to fight the Assembly elections as an independent candidate which I had never dreamt of. I could never imagine that I would have to go against the principle of a party that I had grown up with.”
Roy said that he was confused. “Was I to compromise with respect and self-pride or should I fight against corruption, hollow pride and rough behaviour? It was at this delicate juncture that the beliefs and principles of Mahatma Gandhi, JP, Ram Manohar Lohia and Pandit Deendayal Sharma came to my rescue and I was able to take my firm decision.
The Mahatma had said that at certain junctures, one had to sidestep rules and that becomes a duty; JP always believed and practiced the principle of stooping before corruption, atrocities, injustice is nothing but cowardice; Lohia had observed that the masses could not waity for five years to see and feel the results while Pandit Deendayal was of the belief that if a party made a mistake in selecting a candidate for the elections then the part leaders and the people should ensure rectification of the mistakes.”
Saryu Roy elucidating further stated, “When a few of power drunk BJP’s ruling party had made up their mind to humiliate me and the party bosses bowed to the wishes, I took inspiration form the beliefs of the political greats and came to seek your support. I did all this to protect the pride and prestige, faith and belief, truth and crush vanity that I gave up my Jamshedpur East seat and fought the Assembly election as an independent candidate from the East constituency.
The great people of this constituency showered their faith, trust and affection and I was not disappointed. Neither will I disappoint you. You will never have to feel ashamed for reposing your trust in me. You felt my pain and the result was before all to see on December 23, 2019. Your support has given me strength to continue my crusade against injustice and atrocities. Your historic decision is completing one year today. Today I bow to you in gratitude and assure you that I will never let you down.”
