Seraikela-Kharsawan district chess championship to begin April 25

 

Jamshedpur, April 22: The Seraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association will organise the 21st District Chess Championship 2026 on April 25 and 26 at TSG, NIT Jamshedpur. The tournament is being held in memory of late Suman Kumar Sinha, former president of the association, who played a key role in promoting chess in the district.

The competition will be inaugurated on April 25 at 10:00 AM, with the first round starting at 10:30 AM. The two-day event will conclude on April 26 at 5:00 PM with a prize distribution ceremony.

The tournament will follow a six-round Swiss system as per FIDE rules. Each player will get 30 minutes per game, along with an increment of 30 seconds per move.

A total cash prize pool of over ₹15,000 has been announced. The winner will receive ₹4,000, while the runner-up and third-place winners will get ₹2,500 and ₹1,800 respectively. Cash prizes will also be awarded to players finishing between fourth and tenth positions. Trophies will be given to top performers in age categories including Under-07, Under-09, Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15.

Special prizes have also been announced for NIT Jamshedpur students. The entry fee is ₹400, and organisers have invited chess players to participate in large numbers.
