SER organizes awareness drive at Jugsalai railway crossing

Jamshedpur: South Eastern Railway (SER) observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day today by organizing a rail safety awareness programme at Jugsalai Railway crossing. The officer of South Eastern Railway inaugurated the programme and in his address said the main objective of the programme is to create awareness among the people, especially the students about the safety rules to be followed while crossing a manned or unmanned level crossing. Hundreds of students attended this rail safety awareness programme at Railway crossing along with the local residents and daily commuters.

Jugsalai railway crossing was chosen as the venue of this Safety Awareness Campaign due to large number of accidents reported at the spot and the number keeps increasing with every passing year. Jamshedpur opted for announcements and awareness posters at vulnerable points along tracks to educate the students and road users about the safety rules to be observed at level crossings with a view to prevent accidents, leaflets were distributed among the students to make them aware of the different provisions of Indian Railways Act, Motor Vehicles Act and Safety Rules.

Under Chakradharpur division, there are a total of 21 level crossings of which 14 are unmanned.

�While negotiating a level crossing, see left and right to ensure that no train is coming from either side,� said loudspeakers at Tatanagar station. The announcement was also made in Hindi.

Apart from spreading awareness, the SER has also decided to build subways and over-bridges to facilitate safety of passengers.

Apart from Jamshedpur, International Level Crossing Awareness Day was also observed at other places of Kharagpur Division as well as Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi Divisions of SER.
