Jamshedpur, Nov. 27: The South Eastern Railway (SER) will introduce a tri-weekly winter special train between Santragachi and Tatanagar. The idea is to ease the rush which usually seen during Christmas and New Year.
According to information, the Santragachi- Tata Special Winter Express ( 02813) will run every Monday, Thursday and Sunday from Santragachi to Tatanagar . The Dn train ( 02814) will run every Tuesday, Friday and Monday.
Station manager of Tatanagar, O. P. Sharma said that the decision will help people travel to Kolkata and other places with ease. Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway today notified running the winter special train between the two destinations from tomorrow. ” As the schedule, the train with 14 coaches will run till December 30. It will make 14 trips each in to and fro direction,” he said.
From Santragachi the train will leave at 7.15 pm . It will reach Tatanagar at 10.55 pm. The train from Tatanagar will depart at 7.35 am and it will arrive the originating station ( Santragachi) at 11.20 am.
A railway official at Garden Reach said, ” Passengers have been demanding train for winter. We think the decision for introducing the train was taken to clear the rush of passengers during winter. Passengers can book tickets from today.”
A senior functionary of Chhotanagpur Passenger Association welcomed the railway move. ” For the first time a winter special train was introduced by the railways between the two destinations. It will help in easing the rush in regular trains like Steel and Ispat Superfast Express,” said the functionary.
Located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route Tatanagar is an important station. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
An official said that with the ongoing marriage season in full bloom and the year-end winter festive season round the corner, the rush for different long-distance trains at Tatanagar has witnessed a sudden rise.
Officials at the reservation counter also informed that confirmed tickets in all the major trains heading for big Metros will be available only after the first week of January.
“The rush is because of winter vacation in educational institutions. Keeping this in view, passengers have already booked their tickets well in advance for different tourist destinations,’ said an official.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to clear an extra rush of passengers, the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway is also planning the introduction of additional sleeper class coaches in some of the long distance trains, including the Purushottam Express and the Tata-Alleppy Express.
