Jamshedpur, May 3: The South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to provide three-tier air-conditioned coaches in several long distance trains to clear the extra rush of passengers during the upcoming summer holidays.
Officials at Garden Reach, headquarters of SER said that 3rd AC coaches will be provided in some trains that have long waiting lists. ” We are working on the details. Extra 3rd AC coaches will be provided from first and second week of May when school closes for summer vacation and people head for holidays,” said an official at Garden Reach.
An AC – III coach will be provided to the Tata-Yesvantpur Express from May 5. With the addition of another coach – it will have 64 berths – the number of AC-III coaches that train will become four. A notification in this regard was issued today.
Some of the other trains that will get AC- III coaches include Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express and Howrah-Ahmedabad Express. The number of wait-listed passengers on the reservation lists of these trains has crossed 200 in the first and second weeks of May.
Sources at the computerised passenger reservation system at Tatanagar said that confirmed tickets are not available in most of the trains for destinations like Mumbai, Delhi and other places. An extra ticket counter was also opened at the computerised passenger reservation system.
Located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route Tatanagar is an important station. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
