Ranchi: In response to heightened security concerns, Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport has been elevated to the highly sensitive category from its previous classification as sensitive. The decision, made following a meeting chaired by DGP Ajay Singh at the Police Headquarters, marks an effort to enhance security measures at the airport.
During the meeting, Airport Director’s request prompted discussions on reinforcing security at multiple levels. The focus areas included establishing a robust security front outside the airport, implementing drop gates for thorough vehicle checks, and installing automatic number plate recognition systems. Consideration was also given to augmenting the number of surveillance cameras to bolster monitoring capabilities.
Addressing concerns about traffic congestion caused by indiscriminate parking at the airport, the meeting highlighted the need for improved traffic management initiatives. Plans were discussed to streamline the entry and exit of vehicles within the airport premises.
Post-meeting, a committee, headed by DGP Ajay Singh, was formed to conduct a comprehensive inspection of various facets related to the security system. The committee comprises officials from Ranchi Police, ATS, Special Branch, CISF, and airport authorities. The committee members will conduct inspections and submit internal reports, based on which further security enhancements will be implemented.
Present at the meeting were key officials, including ADG Operations Dr. Sanjay Anand Rao Lathkar, IG Special Branch Prabhatkumar, DIG Ranchi Range Anup Birthare, Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha, ATS SPK, along with representatives from CISF and the airport. The concerted efforts aim to fortify security measures and ensure the safety of Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport.
