Security beefed up for Muharram: Vigilance heightened in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Jamshedpur

Ranchi: In view of Muharram observances, State’s district administrations have implemented extensive security measures across major cities, including Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Jamshedpur. The heightened vigilance includes a robust deployment of police personnel, drone surveillance, and anti-riot preparations to ensure peace and order.

In Jamshedpur, the district administration has left no stone unturned in its preparations. On the eve of Muharram, the district police conducted a flag march throughout the steel city, signaling a day of heightened security. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal detailed the meticulous administrative efforts, highlighting the deployment of over 2,300 armed police personnel at key locations including Mango, Jugsalai, Golmuri, Kadma, and Telco. This robust security presence is aimed at safeguarding the community and ensuring the processions proceed smoothly.

In addition to the substantial police deployment, drone cameras will be utilized to monitor critical areas. These drones will be active in Mango, Kadma, Dhatkidih in Bistupur, and Makdampur in Parsudih. An official noted that the primary purpose of using drone surveillance is to prevent any disruptive activities and ensure the processions proceed without incident. This advanced technology will provide real-time aerial views, enabling quick response to any potential disturbances.

The flag march conducted by the police aimed at bolstering public confidence, particularly among those observing Muharram. The march commenced from Golmuri police line and traversed numerous localities including Telco, Burmamines, Jugsalai, Kadma, Bistupur, Sonari, Mango, Azadnagar, Sitaramdera, Golmuri, and Sakchi. This show of strength and solidarity is designed to reassure the community of their safety and the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace.

Further, the district administration has imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles on the day of Muharram. The ‘no-entry’ directive for these vehicles will be in effect from 9 am tomorrow until 6 am on Thursday. This measure aims to minimize traffic congestion and enhance the safety of participants in the processions.

An anti-riot demonstration was organized at the Golmuri Police Station today. The mock drill, aimed at preparing the police force for any potential disturbances, witnessed the participation of senior officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). The drill commenced with a detailed briefing on the objectives and strategies to be employed in managing riot-like situations. The officers demonstrated various crowd-control techniques, including the use of water cannons, tear gas, and lathi charges. The exercise also included scenarios involving the safe evacuation of citizens, the establishment of barricades, and the swift mobilization of police personnel to critical areas.

SSP Kishore Kaushal emphasized the importance of such drills in maintaining public safety and order during significant events like Muharram. “Our goal is to ensure that the Muharram processions are conducted peacefully without any untoward incidents. The mock drill is a part of our preparedness to handle any situation efficiently and protect the citizens,” he stated.

Rural SP Rishab Garg highlighted the collaborative efforts of various police units in the district to ensure a secure environment. “Coordination among different police departments is crucial. Today’s exercise showcased our readiness and the seamless integration of our forces to tackle any emergency,” he remarked.

Similar security measures have been implemented in other major cities across Jharkhand. In Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, and Hazaribagh, district administrations have beefed up security, conducting flag marches and deploying armed police personnel at strategic locations. Drone cameras are also being used to monitor processions and ensure prompt responses to any incidents.
