Jamshedpur : The second bridge over river Kharkai, linking Jamshedpur with Adityapur has been opened for commuters. Movement of vehicles were allowed in both the flanks of the new Bridge. Tata Steel has installed two highmast lamps at the approach road.
A senior official of the logistics department of Tata Steel, which is carrying out the approach road project, said total approach road project will be in complete form by the end of the first week of January. The approach road has been made suitable for start commuting through the second bridge, but there are several points where finishing work is yet to be made.
Construction of the approach road on Bistupur side of the Kharkhai bridge was a bottleneck in making the second Kharkai bridge linking Jamshedpur to Adityapur operational.
Jusco had assured SDO Prem Ranjan that the road will be constructed soon. Jan Kalyan Morcha had called off its maha dharna. The NGO had called a “maha dharna” at the Bistupur end of the bridge from December 13.
JKM president, Om Prakash said that the second Kharkai bridge should have been made operational by November -2012 in accordance with the assurance given by the PWD-Road Construction and the executing agency, but despite lapse of over one year, the approach road work could not be completed as yet.
He said that SDO has informed them about the progress and they have decided to called off. From now onward, the work at the approach road will be carried out in war-footing so as to get the work completed the road before.
The NGO, Jan Kaylan Morcha (JKM) had been pressing the administration to complete the construction of the approach road. Encouraged by the JKM, a section of the Adityapur residents had threatened that they would stage a dharna on the new bridge if the approach road does not complete by December.
Though originally, the Mangotia Construction, the company which built the second bridge, was supposed to construct the approach road to the bridge on both the end. But the bridge company failed to comply with its commitment, leading the PWD – Road Construction to approach Tata Steel and the Jharkhand Accelerated Road Development Company Limited (JARDCL) for completing the approach road on both the end.
