Jamshedpur, June 5: SDSM School for Excellence marked the Environment Day celebration in its campus with great enthusiasm on 5th June, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection and educate attendees about practical ways to achieve it.
The Principal, in her address, emphasized the adoption of the ‘3R’ approach: the economical use of resources, reuse, and recycle. She highlighted the significance of these practices in minimizing waste generation and promoting sustainability. Dr. Mita Tarafder, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NML, also shared valuable insights on methods to protect the environment.
Under the theme of #BeatPlasticPollution and ‘Ecosystem Restoration,’ the school outlined three action plans on this special day. Firstly, a drive was initiated to collect single-use plastic bags from various sources and deposit them in a designated plastic bank within the school premises for recycling. This initiative aimed to reduce plastic pollution and promote responsible waste management practices.
The second activity focused on collecting newspapers for reuse as paper bags. By encouraging the reuse of newspapers, the school aimed to minimize paper waste and promote eco-friendly alternatives.
The third action plan involved separating bio-degradable and non-degradable waste. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about proper waste segregation and the environmental benefits associated with it. The event served as a reminder that the Earth is a shared resource and protecting it is a collective responsibility. SDSM School for Excellence highlighted the importance of inculcating sustainable practices in daily life to safeguard the environment for future generations.
