Illegal basement constructions at Jamshedpur Hotel Centre Point and Dayal International to be razed, SDO conducts surprise inspection

Jamshedpur: In a swift and decisive action, Jamshedpur Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Parul Singh conducted a surprise inspection on Tuesday, targeting illegal basement constructions in the city. The inspection led to stern warnings and immediate demolition orders for non-compliant structures.

Singh’s unannounced visit aimed to address long-standing violations in the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) jurisdiction. Accompanied by JNAC engineers, the SDO inspected various sites, scrutinizing the structural integrity and adherence to approved building plans.

The first stop was Center Point Hotel in Bistupur. The SDO instructed JNAC engineers Sanjay Singh and MK Pradhan to submit a comprehensive map of the hotel, highlighting the need to restore the basement parking facility. The inspection revealed significant deviations from the approved plans, prompting immediate corrective measures.

The team then moved to Hotel Dayal International in the SNP Area of Sakchi. Here, a gross violation was discovered as the basement kitchen was found in its original condition, contrary to regulations. The SDO, visibly angered by the disregard for rules, ordered the complete restoration of the basement parking area. Furthermore, the building owner was instructed to file an FIR under various sections of the Municipal Act.

The inspection continued at another property in the SNP Area, where the SDO found serious infractions. Shocked by the extent of unauthorized construction, she ordered a bulldozer on the spot to demolish shops and free up the basement area. Three individuals operating outside the property lines were also stopped immediately.

SDO directed the JNAC engineer to survey all basements previously demolished and ensure compliance with the municipal regulations. In a related development, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee had already claimed ongoing action against such violations, which was to be presented in an affidavit to the Jharkhand High Court on June 13.

“The blatant disregard for municipal laws will not be tolerated. Building owners must adhere to the regulations, and any violations will be met with strict action,” said SDO Parul Singh. She emphasized the importance of restoring legal parking facilities and maintaining structural integrity.

The sudden crackdown has sent a strong message to all building owners and developers in Jamshedpur, highlighting the administration’s commitment to enforcing municipal laws. The swift actions are expected to deter future violations and ensure safer, legally compliant constructions in the city.
