School girls fall victim to eve teasing in running bus

Jamshedpur : The police have nabbed two of the three eve-teasers on the statement by the victims three girls’ students of ADLS High School in Sakchi jumped out of a mini-bus near Hathi-Ghora Temple at Sakchi near the Mango bridge on being teased by a group of three younsters last afternoon.

Beside  the driver and conductor of the mini-bus last evening, and today sent all the four to Ghaghidih Central Jail after producing them before the chief judicial magistrate. On Saturday, one of the girls sustained injuries as she jumped from a running bus, where as two others sustained minor injuries. 

The victims had requested the driver and conductor of the mini-bus to stop the vehicle, but they did not pay heed to their request.

A meeting of the mini-bus owners was held and they were asked to provide the names and cell-number of the driver and conductors to the DSP (traffic) Vivekanand Thakur.

“We have been receiving complains of eve-teasing in different localities of the city, directions have been given to the police authorities to tighten the noose around the miscreants indulging in these activities,” said police officials.

The police officer, however, added that two or three complaints of eve-teasing are being received every week at different police stations. The incidents of eve teasing have not stopped yet as many students commuting from near Graduate School College for Women and Jamshedpur Women’s College still complains of facing the problem. Women colleges and girls schools are the favourite points for these miscreants.

“We agree that police have a big role to play to check such incidents but equally crucial is for a woman to realise the importance of speaking out. From our understanding we feel that such incidents of crime can be checked if a woman breaks her silence and complains immediately,” said another police official.

Social worker Alpana Basu said that women should always be encouraged to break their silence and take brave steps. It is important they realise that it ensures not only their safety but also the safety of other women.

Meanwhile sources informed that two women officers and two constables have been deputed for the anti-eveteasing cell and four officers for the anti-extortion cell.

Besides, the district police have also started taking action against sim card sellers who are engaged in issuing sim cards without verifying the identity of the buyer.
