Jamshedpur, July 25: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Vice President, Mukesh Mittal has renewed the urge for renovation of Steel City’s iconic Keenan Stadium which has witnessed several epic international matches.
The SCCI Vice President in his letters to Ratan N Tata, TV Narendran, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, Chanakya Choudhary, has urged to bring back Keenan’s lost glory. Mukesh Mittal contended in his letter that Tata Steel always believed “Sports is a way of life” and motivated by this sporting spirit, the company had taken several initiatives to promote sports to its best in this city of Jamshedpur thus providing large playgrounds, especially Keenan Stadium and JRD Tata Sports complex.
Mittal cited in his letter that, “Jamshedpur was once considered the Mecca of Cricket in undivided Bihar and Keenan Stadium has produced a number of players of National and International repute like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, for quite some time, the stadium does not appear to be in proper shape for sports. It is also observed that major cricketing events of Jharkhand, Premier League Cricket Tournament and ODI matches are now held in Ranchi. In order to encourage budding sports aspirants of this Steel City, it is acutely felt that rejuvenation of Keenan Stadium needs to be taken up on priority and we do hope that Tata Steel along with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) shall surely initiate necessary action, as always, so that cricket lovers in and around Jamshedpur once again witness those exciting ODI and T20 matches.
