SCCI to seek PM Modi’s intervention for Jamshedpur Airport

Jamshedpur, April 16:  The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the speedy construction of the airport in Jamshedpur.

The SCCI  president Vijay Anand Moonka and general secretary Manav Kedia told that in view of the continuous demand of Singhbhum Chamber and the need for an airport in Jamshedpur, its foundation stone has also been laid in Dhalbhumgarh, but the land allotted for it got stuck again. Its construction work has been interrupted. In this context, the Prime Minister has been requested to intervene on this subject.

The chamber officials said that establishment of airport in Jamshedpur is very necessary for development of the 100 year old industrial city.

“Jharkhand state gets maximum revenue from Jamshedpur. There are more than 1300 large, medium and small scale industries established here. But till now the airport has not been constructed. Due to which the entrepreneurs, businessmen and professionals coming here have to travel by air to another city, Ranchi or Kolkata and catch an airplane, which is a lot of trouble and time-waste for them. Because of this, big industrial houses are not showing their interest in setting up their plants here,” SCCI officials have written.

They said that the airport is very important for achieving the goal of Ease of Doing Business of the Government of India. Due to its absence, even new investors shy away from investing here.

“ Airports have been established in many other districts of Jharkhand state, recently the inauguration and operation of the airport in Deoghar has started. Whereas a city like Jamshedpur needs it the most. The development of Jamshedpur has almost come to a standstill due to non-availability of airport. Due to non-availability of airport, the people here are facing many other problems, such as new businesses and industries are not being established in Jamshedpur due to lack of new investor,” they added.

After completing their studies, the young generation here does not want to do employment, industry and business here and for this there is migration of youth from here. Due to this, Jharkhand state’s revenue and capital are helping in the development of other states. Due to non-availability of airport, how much business and industrial future of Jamshedpur will remain – it is a matter of concern the SCCI officials claimed.

The SCCI sought Prime Minister intervention on this issue and have requested to complete the construction of airport in Jamshedpur at the earliest.
